Nikki’s Visit to the ER
Posted by stephyc under: Uncategorized .
On Monday, March 16th Nikki had some stomach pain. We decided to take her to see the doctor to make sure she was okay. The doctor examined her and decided it would be best to send her to the Emergency Room (RM). I drove her straight to the ER to make sure she was treated immediately. Nikki was very brave through the whole ordeal. The doctors and nurses did a great job reassuring her that she would be okay. They did blood work, x-rays, and urine tests. The blood work showed she had an elevated white blood cell count. The x-rays showed nothing of concern. The urine tests showed she didn’t have any bacteria.
They finally decided to do a CT scan to rule out an appendicitis. Poor little Nikki was suppose to drink two big glasses of yucky stuff. She was only able to drink about one and a half cups. It took 4 hours to get the liquid drank and the scan done and finally the results. They were able to rule out an appendicitis. However, that leaves us with more questions then answers. The ER doctor suggested we meet with our pediatrician today and also schedule follow-up appointments to rule out anything serious.
Today March 17th we met with our pediatrician for a follow-up visit. She looked Nikki over and noticed she has an ear infection which possibly will account for the elevated white blood cell count. They were able to determine that Nikki probably has constipation and or gas. She has been asked by the doctor to eat prunes/raisins everyday. We are meeting with the pediatrician again in a couple weeks. She will be doing more blood work at that time to see if her white blood count is back to normal.
We will keep you updated if there are any changes….
