Yaeger Canyon Loop Trail June 2009

On 12 June 2009 Jason and I went on a hike.  We chose the Yaeger Canyon Loop Trail.  We knew it would be a challenge, but since our girls were in Prescott with their Uncle Eric we thought it would be okay.  Researching this hike we found that it was 4 hours long and 6 miles with an elevation increase of 1200 foot!  Jason and I left the car at 12 noon and started our hike.

The uphill climb was a tough challenge, but well worth it.  We took a picture of the car from near the top.  Jason found an animal skeleton in a tree.  He said it was time for Scary Movie.  At the top of the canyon we decided to have lunch.  We had a turkey sandwich, some chips, and fruit snacks.

We continued on our journey and as we were headed back down the mountain we came to some switchbacks.  At the switchbacks we heard a rattling sound.  Jason pushed me out of the way and said get back.  Sitting on the rocks on the side of the trail was a black rattlesnake.  Jason snapped some pictures of the snake and we continued on our way.  We are so lucky neither of us was bit by that snake.

As we continued on our journey we made more ground.  We got to the six mile mark on our GPS.  It was around 3:30pm and I figured we had another hour to the car.  Come to find out we had 2.5 miles to go and another 2 hours of hiking to do.  We found several horny toads, Century plants, cacti and lizards too on our way.  We had a long hike, but it definately wasn’t easy!
