What Nikki found in our garden…?

This morning 23 June 2009 Nikki went outside to check out our garden. She is keeping track of all the veggies/fruits in our garden. She hollered for me to bring my camera because she had something cool for us to see. I of course brought my camera to see what what so exciting to her. She said, “Look!” and she pointed at this….

It was surprising to see one, but very surprising to see two. These two tiny hummingbirds were stuck in our garden. We have tried to leave them alone so that possibly the mom or dad hummingbirds could come and bring them back to the nest or at least feed them. Well, we tried to call the Humane Society and our local Animal Control. They told us to leave them alone.

Our girls were put on cat watch from the front yard. That way if the parents came to get them they wouldn’t be disturbed and the cats wouldn’t eat the babies. Jason and I would check on them to make sure they were still there, but finally about an hour ago one of them died. I fear the same fate for the one left. I have done all that I can do to keep them comfortable. I pray that these little cute animals know that we did all we could! Being helpless in this matter is so humbling. I wish there was more that I could do for these little creatures. They are so cute!
