It’s Independence Day 2009!!!

I’m only a week late posting this…We had a nice and fairly quiet Independence day at home. We played games and had BBQ. Emily came over with Jaylee and the kids got to play together. Kevin dropped off his boys so he and Jason could go help with the set up of the fireworks. The girls and the boys had a blast playing together. Emily headed home, because she and Brady had to work the next day. Jaylee stayed the night with us. Michele came over and we packed up a little ice chest to take with us. Michele and I took the kids to the fair grounds to watch the firework display that Kevin and Jason got to help put on! We were able to find a spot up close and with a perfect view. We got our blanket stretched out. Let the kids all get comfortable on it and got ready for the show! First up was the Color Guard with the presentation of the flags!

Brian Lee, Lizzi, Nikki, and Jaylee standing for the flag! Our community does a wonderful job of showing support for all the Armed Services. I’m so glad that I live in a community that supports our troops and all military personnel! This ceremony lasted right up to dusk. We sang the National Anthem, joined with our neighbors for the Pledge of Allegiance, and also a moment of silence. They played each of the Military branches songs and asked anyone who served to stand up. At the very last they played Taps! I don’t know of a better way to remember those that have given their lives for our country!
I saw a couple friends at the fireworks show. I went over to say hi and they offered ice cream for the kids. I thought they might enjoy it so I told her it would be okay to bring some over. She came with a bowl for each of the kids. Thanks Kim! The kids loved the ice cream!

Nikki enjoying her ice cream. Adam doesn’t eat a lot of sweets so he didn’t eat much of the ice cream. I finished his for him.

Lizzi and Jaylee eating up all their ice cream. Jaylee said to me, “I like!”

Brian Lee eating his ice cream…kind of. I don’t know what he was doing, but this is the picture I got! I know he ate all of his…

Jaylee showing me her ice cream!
While the other kids were finishing their ice cream. Adam was rocking out to the music. He was playing his air guitar!

When Nikki finished she decided to join Adam, but she was playing her’s with her glow stick. Then Adam decided to play the drums instead. It was so cute watching them!

Then the fireworks began. We all enjoyed watching them…except for Jaylee! She didn’t like the noise that they made. She clung to me for dear life. I could not move her in the slightest without her freaking out! She literally was digging her shoulder into my chin. Emily didn’t tell me she doesn’t like fireworks. If I had known she would react that way I might have kept her at home…

I couldn’t get her to look at them for anything. This is the way she stayed through most of the show! I tried to get a couple pictures of the finale. My timing was off! This is one of the few that actually turned out….

Happy Independence Day to One and All! I hope yours was at least as nice as mine!
