DAY 3- Final day in Nauvoo!

Posted by stephyc under: Uncategorized .

We went in the morning to our family cemetery in Tennessee, Illinois. It’s named Hutchinson Cemetery. Some of our family names are Jarvis, Hughbanks, and more…

Unfortunately this cemetery has seen better days. My Dad really wants to fix it up! His heart is in the right place, but I’m afraid that in a few years it would be back to this state since we don’t live close enough to keep it up. I would love to take a day in this cemetery/local historical society!

We finished packing for our trip home and then headed to Nauvoo for one last short visit there. We first went to the Community of Christ landmarks. This area is the property that was owned by the Prophet Joseph and the place in which he lived during the end of his life! Our first stop was the Smith Family Cemetery. This is the location where Joseph Jr., Emma, Hyrum, Joseph Sr., and Lucy Mack Smith are buried.

To the east of the Smith Family Cemetery is the Smith Homestead.

Off to the west of the cemetery is the Red Brick Store. We took a moment to discuss some of the amazing events that occurred in the Red Brick Store.

We then went to the Brigham Young Home. Inside you can see actual china that was owned by the Young’s in Nauvoo. Many of the pieces were found broken in the root cellar/well.

In the addition to Brigham Young home there is a big table for meetings.

Also in this room is a huge painting of Brigham Young.

We went to the backyard to look around and found the well and root cellar.

After touring the Brigham Young home we hit the road again. On the way back to Keith’s home we stopped at Fort Madison, Iowa. There is a really awesome Fort there.

This is the last picture from our trip home that I took. I really didn’t want to take photo’s on the way home since we were all tired and worn out! I absolutely loved our trip to Nauvoo, Carthage, and Tennessee, Illinois! There was so much to see and so many cool things that I still want to see! I will go back to this beautiful place. I don’t know when, but I will go!
