The Circus comes to the Verde Valley 2009

On Monday Sept. 21st the Jordan World Circus came to town.

Circus comes to Cottonwood 2009

Working at the school I got free tickets for the girls and buy one adult ticket get one free.  So we decided to go and show our girls about the circus.  Having grown up in California I have gone to the Circus several times.  I really enjoyed the Circus as a child and I wanted to share that with my girls.  Little did I know this Circus is nothing like the ones I had the privilege of going to.  To begin with it was out in the open air.  Now this made for a beautiful setting and we had an awesome view of Sedona while the sun was setting.  While we were waiting for the show to begin they had pony rides, elephant rides, slides, and face painting.  Of course, we don’t make a habit of carrying cash with us, they didn’t take credit cards,  and we didn’t think to stop at the bank on the way.  Our girls wanted to go on the rides.  We had to tell the girls that they couldn’t go on the rides.  They were very disappointed and we promised them when the circus came again we would bring cash with us.  The show started 20 minutes late so that our neighbors could come in.  Really I think it was so they could get more people to spend money on the rides.

Finally the show was ready to begin….

They had some wonderful acrobatics…

circus acrobatics 2009These ladies were staying up by the way they wrapped the rope around their arm or leg.  It’s crazy to put your trust in a piece of rope.

Next came the Lion and Tiger Tamer….

He had two tigers and one very old lion.  One of the tigers was a white tiger.

The tamer had a small fence in the cage for the tigers and lion to jump over.  The tiger went first…circus tiger jumping a small fence 2009

The lion was suppose to go next, but he climbed under the fence.

More acrobatics were displayed…

Up next was the Circle of Destiny!

circus circle of destiny 2009The girls favorite part of the show.  This guy was very daring and even scared me a couple times.  Starting on the inside of the circle and took a couple turns on the inside.  He then moved to the outside of the cage.

circus cod outside 2009While he was on the outside he started jumping rope.  One of the times around he nearly fell off because his foot caught on the jump rope.

There was a Globe of Death and some jugglers and a couple other things that my pictures didn’t turn out very good.  They had intermission which had more rides and things we couldn’t pay for so we decided to leave early.  In addition it was a school night and it was already 8:40 pm.  I almost stayed to catch the second half of the show for the girls to see pictures, but I figured we could do it another time.  In many ways this was very similar to Circus’ I have been to, but I have never been to a Circus where they make most of their money by putting on rides and other things.

Before we left I took a couple more pictures….
