Nikki’s New Year is off….

Posted by stephyc under: Uncategorized.

Well, I already posted about her dog bite.  Since then she was harassed at school by two boys (Friday, Jan. 14).  They called her names and 3 different times she walked away.  When she finally went and told the teacher was when one of the boys kicked her on her left arm (above the elbow) while she was swinging.

On Sunday, Jan. 16 after church she was complaining of a bad headache.  I gave her some Tylenol and she fell asleep.  Later she woke up…she said she felt like she was going to puke.  Within 20 seconds she puked!  Since then she has been running a fever, complaining of sore throat, coughing, rosy red cheeks, and sleeping A LOT!  She went to the doctor today and it looks like the flu and it needs to “run it’s course!”  Since she was just on a round of 10 day antibiotics I’m not complaining.  She appears to be feeling a little better this evening with her rosy cheeks not so bright red.

I hope that after this sickness she will have a better time because she’s having a really rough start to the New Year!

Little Girls and Dog Bites?

Posted by stephyc under: Uncategorized.

On Monday January 3, 2010 Nikki went out to ride her bike with one of the neighbor girls.  I was visiting with my parents when she came in and told us that she had fun riding bikes and (totally nonchalantly)  I got bit by their dog…

????What???????????

She showed us the band-aid on her wrist that they had given her for the bite.  We immediately took it off and looked at it.  Jason was sent over to find out if it had rabies shots.  Jason came back with news that the dog had one set of shots, but they couldn’t tell him which ones.

I called the doctor’s office and they asked a few questions, but then suggested we take her to the ER.  (Of course 10 minutes to 5pm I figured they would tell us to go to the ER or Urgent Care.)

Jason took Nikki to the ER while I stayed home with Lizzi.  He does better in those crisis moments then I do, but he’s horrible about keeping me updated…

They were in and out then at Walgreens by 6:30 pm when I finally texted him for an update.

Needless to say she is fine, the wound is healing quickly.  The dog is on home quarantine, by Animal Control.  Nikki gets to take horrible tasting antibiotics for the next 10 day.  I don’t know whose punishment is worse…?!

Good-bye 2010….Hello 2011

Posted by stephyc under: Uncategorized.

This past year has been an extremely difficult year for me.  So as not to dwell on all the reasons it was hard, I will look at all the milestones we have celebrated and enjoyed this past year.

On January 6, 2010 My nephew Issac was born!

On February 16, 2010 Nikki turned 9.  We had a great time with everyone chewing on dog bones and dog food….lol ;)

On February 26, 2010 We closed escrow on our New Home!  We are homeowners for the first time ever!

On March 27, 2010 Jason and I celebrated 10 years of marriage!  I wish we had some wonderful story of our Anniversary, but it was simple and nice.  Mostly spent at home.

Easter 2010 was spent at Red Rock Crossing in Sedona.  It was so nice having Mom, Dad, Eric, Jenn, Jaran, Easton, Kevin, Michele, Brian, Adam, and our family all together!

On May 5, 2010 We celebrated my (Stephanie) birthday.  Mary made me a cake, Lisa got me a gift, and our students helped celebrate too!  Thanks for making this day fun for me!  Jason got me a beautiful birthday cake and we had another party at home!  I guess everyone should turn 35 with a quiet party at home…

On May 9, 2010 we had a small Mother’s Day celebration at home after church!

On May 20, 2010 we had field day at the school.  We had a wonderful school year and end it with a day of playing in the water….

On May 31, 2010 we celebrated Memorial Day.  I searched for a Memorial Day activity that would allow us to remember those that have given their lives serving our country.  As I searched I found one that peeked my interest, so we went to see a Navajo Code Talker.  It was very impressive to listen to him tell about their duties.  I would recommend that everyone spend one day at the feet of an American Veteran!  I am partial to WWII Veteran’s, but the history that they are sharing is amazing!

On June 15, 2010 We had the honor of going to Main Street Deli in Hughson, California.  I knew I would have a wonderful Kozy Sandwich, but I wasn’t prepared for the amazing “sweets” that I was able to eat.  I am so lucky to have friends who are amazingly talented and have made that talent a business!

On June 16, 2010 We celebrated my Dad’s 60th Birthday.  The kids had fun wrapping his presents….

On June 18, 2010 We threw Dad a surprise birthday party with his friends.  Mom sent him to the movies with 4 of his Grandkids so he would be out of the way.  As soon as he was gone the decorations and preparations began….Surprise!!!!

If you have been keeping up with my blog that is where my year ended…not really, but that’s where everything became too much for me to do.  I stopped blogging, but that doesn’t mean nothing was happening.

On June 20, 2010 after being in California for almost three weeks, we headed home!

On June 26, 2010 We wished my parents a Happy 40th Anniversary!!!

On June 30, 2010 we had our first trip to the Cottonwood Rec Center.  The girls made me dizzy with the slide.

On July 2, 2010 we got our Entertainment Center!

On July 4, 2010 We had my parents over to BBQ and watch the fireworks from our backyard!

On July 9, 2010 we said farewell to our friends the Wood’s Family (moving to Utah) and more importantly to Taylor who is leaving on his mission.

On July 13, 2010 We wished a Happy 20th Anniversary to Eric and Jenn!

On July 19, 2010 My nephew Eli was born.

On July 24, 2010 We went to the Stake Pioneer Day Celebration.  The girls, Jason, and I had fun fishing for crawdads.

On August 2, 2010 My niece MaKynna was born!

On August 3, 2010 We attended Open House at both of our daughter’s schools.

On August 4, 2010 We are back to school and work for me!

On August 21, 2010 Jason and I attended Stake Temple Day.  It was wonderful to be in the temple with my Hubby and some of our friends.

On August 27, 2010 Nikki learned that she made the Jammin’ Jumpers team!

On September 2, 2010 We attended both of our girls’ Parent/Teacher Conferences.

In September Lizzi started attending her Music Appreciation Class after school on Mondays!

Nikki’s Jammin’ Jumpers team meets every Monday and Thursday after school!

We got a new refrigerator in September since our other one stopped working earlier in the month!

On September 30, 2010 We had a birthday party for Jason.  Many of his friends were able to attend and we enjoyed visiting with everyone!

On October 1 and 2, 2010 Jason attended the Prescott Rally Race!

On October 8, 2010 we left for Utah!

On October 10, 2010 MaKynna was blessed.

On October 11, 2010 Jason and I went to the Salt Lake Temple.  It was an amazing day!

On October 13, 2010 we visited Kolob Canyon and Zions National Park in Southern Utah.  I think my favorite was the Court of the Patriarchs.

On October 16, 2010 The girls and I went to the Cottonwood AirFest 2010.  We had a pancake breakfast served up by some of the teachers at Lizzi’s school.  We enjoyed the planes and car show. Jason joined us by bringing us food and drinks.  He really enjoyed to reenactment groups…

On October 24, 2010 The girls participated in the Primary Presentation during the Sacrament Meeting.  The girls sang a duet to “Follow the Prophet” by singing the verse about Jonah.

On November 8, 2010 We started a Sign Language Class at the High School every Monday night.  It went until December 13 and we will have another one in the early Spring.

On November 17, 2010 We wished Emily and Brady a Happy 5th Anniversary!

On November 26, 2010 Jason and I left for Mesa.  We went to dinner at an Italian Restaurant.  We then went to Tempe Marketplace and finally to see the lights and nativity displays at the Temple.

On December 1, 2010 We wished Emily a Happy 30th Birthday!

On December 4, 2010 I dropped off Nikki at the Fairgrounds.  We then went to get our seats for the parade.

On December 15, 2010 We had an early Birthday Party for Lizzi’s 8th Birthday.  She never had friends show up to her party before, because her birthday is so close to Christmas.  This year she had many friends who were able to make it!  It was such a fun and exciting party!

On December 21, 2010 Happy 8th Birthday Lizzi!

On December 25, 2010 We woke up to the girls telling us that Santa had come….We all opened presents and enjoyed spending time together.  At noon we drove to Kevin’s home and there had breakfast/lunch and opened more presents.  We wished Kevin and his family a safe trip to Tucson.   Afterward we drove to our home where we had Christmas dinner and opened more presents!  I had a wonderful Christmas!

On December 28, 2010 The girls and I traveled to Prescott Valley for Jaran’s Basketball Tournament.  He played two really tough games.  Jaran is an amazing defensive player.  I didn’t get to see his shooting skills since some of his teammates don’t pass the ball to him (even when he’s open), but he did make a few baskets!  We also got to do some shopping while we were there…

So now that 2010 is coming to a close…All I can say is I’m glad this year is over!!!

Hello 2011…..

Dad’s Surprise 60th Birthday Party

Posted by stephyc under: Uncategorized.

On Friday, June 18, 2010 We planned a surprise birthday party for Dad’s 60th!  We made sure that he wouldn’t come back home by sending him with four kids to the movies.  Mom, Sarah, and I set things up as quickly as possible and prepared the food for the party of the century.  Mom had some wonderful friends help with food and decorations!  Without them I don’t know how we could have pulled it off in time…

We are fairly confident that Dad had no clue what we were planning.  The surprise shows on his face.

The banner was made by four of Dad’s grandchildren just for the party!

Dad opening his birthday presents.  If you read his hat it says, “At my age….Getting lucky is finding my car in the parking lot!”

Being the smarty pants daughter that I am…I added 60 candles to Dad’s birthday cake.  We proceeded to light them, but when it was time to blow out the candles Dad was no where to be found.  He finally showed up to blow out the candles…!  Whew!

We hope that you had fun at your surprise birthday party!!!

On June 15, 2010 Mom, Dad, Nikki, Lizzi, Brian, Adam, and I went to Main Street Deli and Bakery for lunch.  We all had Kozy Sandwiches that were so yummy!

After eating our yummy sandwiches we checked out the dessert case….

The lemon bars were wonderful, but my favorite was the Peanut Butter Brownie!  Absolutely a must have!!!

Lizzi playing on one of the bar stools.

Nikki eating her ice cream cone…

One more look at the Main Street Deli and Bakery in Hughson, California!  Home of the world famous Kozy Sandwiches….

Grasshopper Point June 2010

Posted by stephyc under: Uncategorized.

On June 7, 2010 Nikki, Lizzi, Brian, Adam, Say, and I went to Grasshopper Point in Sedona.  We had a fun time playing in the river, jumping off cliffs, and spending time together.

It was really pretty there too!  We spent the day looking at these beautiful cliffs.

We had a good time playing in the river.  It was nice and cool too!

Aunt Say talked Lizzi into going cliff jumping.  She was the first of the kids to jump and she jumped the most times.  She loved it, except the one time that she belly flopped.

Lizzi right after her belly flop….

It took Lizzi a while, but she finally went and jumped off again.  She was happy again.

We all had a fun time playing at the river and keeping cool in the hot summer sun!!!

Memorial Day 2010

Posted by stephyc under: Uncategorized.

Monday, May 31, 2010 We could only find one Memorial Day event in the Verde Valley and it was at Montezuma Castle National Monument.

They arranged to have one of the remaining “Navajo Code Talkers” come and tell of his experiences during World War 2.  He told of his time at Iwo Jima and how each “talker” was assigned a Marine who if anything should happen they were to shoot the “talker” and then himself.  The “talkers” could never be captured.

He told us of his 12 children and 100+ grandchildren and how he is 88 years old.  He explained how the code worked they would give a Navajo word, translate it into English, and then take the first letter of the English word to make it complete.  He said, “We could do in minutes, what it would take hours to do with the technology of that time period.”  He emphasized how young he was when he was over there just 19 years old.

For his service during WWII as a “Navajo Code Talker” he was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor.  His name is Sgt. Major Dan Akee.  Quite an amazingly humble man.  It was a pleasure and an honor to meet this fine gentleman.  Even when he was getting a picture with our girls he was very grandfatherly with our girls.  Lizzi was going to stand next to Nikki and he moved her to his other side.  If you look closely he has his hand on Lizzi’s shoulder.

I was very impressed with his family too.  Many of his children and grandchildren were there.  The ones I had an opportunity to talk with had many kind words to say about their father/grandfather.  The young man holding the umbrella is one of his grandchildren and he held it for over an hour without complaining.

Another incredible adventure on our journey through life.  Meeting a “Navajo Code Talker” and listening to his stories is a day I won’t soon forget!  Another day spent with my wonderful family….

Field Day 2010

Posted by stephyc under: Uncategorized.

The last full day of school was Field Day (20 May 2010).  When I was a kid that meant running and jumping.  For today’s kids it means water slides, games, and popsicles.  Since I worked in the same class that Lizzi was in I got to spend the day with her and had fun too!

The kids played water games and toward the end Lizzi’s teacher and I decided it was time for us to join the fun!  So we went down the waterslide….

As I’m going down the slide I’m thinking, “This is fun.”  Then the water from the hose hit me and I’m thinking, “Wow, that’s cold.”  Next, I look down at the water and I’m thinking, “Ewwwww, that’s dirty.”  I think, “Alright I will put my feet down and I won’t get too wet.”  Nice theory, until my feet hit the slippery bottom and I went down.  I didn’t get my head wet, but I had wet clothes!

Lizzi and I thought it would be fun to go down together.  It was and we got even more wet!

It was a fun, wet Field Day at school!
